What happens at a Repair Café?

You will be greeted by our Front-of-House volunteers who will ask you to complete a registration form and sign a disclaimer. The registration form is used for our statistics on the most popular types of repairs and how successful the repairs have been so that we can improve future events and demonstrate the benefit provided.

You may have a short wait for a suitable repairer to become free but we will do our best to keep the waiting time to a minimum. Whilst you are waiting you will be able to enjoy a drink and snack provided by our wonderful catering volunteers.

When a suitable repairer becomes free you can join them to watch the repair taking place and potentially assist with it if you so wish. One of our objectives is for visitors to learn and pick up some new practical skills so the repairer will try to explain what is happening and why.

Unfortunately, sometimes items are not repairable.  If this is the case, the reasons will be explained and advice given on the safest and easiest way to dispose of it.

The repairer will record the outcome of the repair and complete a final check of the item before you leave.  Our reception volunteers will ask you for feedback on your experience, this will be taken into account to improve future events.
